A friend of mine, Kari Converse, took the photograph I based this painting on. This thistle plant was growing in a yard in the Southeast Heights in Albuquerque, in the Ridgecrest neighborhood. I see a lot of these plants when I go mountain bike riding in the foothills of the Sandias.
