This painting came from a hike in the fall in the Smoky Mountains. My husband stood on a rock in the mountain stream and took a photo. When I saw the photo, I was intrigued by the fractured light. I could see many different shapes in the reflections and the stream bottom. I decided that the center of interest area looked like the face of the figure in Edvard Munch’s “The Scream.” When I was trying to decide on a title, and whether I was done with the painting, I consulted a friend a fellow painter, Lynn Mclain. We both saw a figure in the water, so I decided upon the title of “Water Spirit.” This painting won an Honorable Mention at the New Mexico State Fair.
