Velarde is a town between Santa Fe and Taos in northern New Mexico. We like to go there in the fall because there is a studio tour in another little town, Dixon, that I enjoy. These ristras were in a little roadside fruit stand. They sell apples and gourds and all sorts of other produce. The new red ristras get strung during this time because that’s when the harvest comes in. Many New Mexico homes then hang them by their front doors. We do.
