This painting came out of a trip to San Francisco where I visited my sister Martha. Martha and I went to a farmer’s market next to the Embarcadero. I was trying out my new Pentax camera. When I showed the developed film to a photographer friend who had recommended the camera, he looked at the photograph that I based this on and said, “Pears as landscape.” I liked the title so much I had to paint it.
