When the New Mexico Rail Runner first started its runs up to Santa Fe from Albuquerque, we decided to go and spend a night at a bed and breakfast. Close to the main train station, we walked by a store called Kowboyz with a display of these colorful boots. The next day we went in and I was able to take some pictures, which were my references for this painting.
